7 Hour Full Day Tour To The Islands Of Venice: Murano, Burano And Torcello
Join us on this full day tour and experience the three islands of the Venetian lagoon, Murano, Burano and Torcello. Each island will amaze you with its tradition and centenary history.
Visiting theĀ islands of VeniceĀ is an experience that will open your eyes to the beauty of its surroundings. You will also be able to appreciate theĀ traditional handicraft of the different islands. The tour departs from San Marco, where you will meet your tour guide and hop aboard the motorboat that will bring you to the incredible islands.
The first stop of this tour isĀ Murano, also known as the āfloating factoryā, where theĀ culture of glassmakingĀ is traditionally carried forward over the centuries. The art of moulding sand crystals into a form that is so exquisite and fragile dates back to the 8th century - imagine that the glassmakers were not allowed to leave the island in order to avoid anyone disclosing the secret of this particular art. You will visitĀ one of the most famous glass making factories of MuranoĀ to witness a demonstration of this art. You will have 1 hour ofĀ free time here to explore the island on your own.
The second island will beĀ Burano,Ā made up of 5 small islands connected through tiny bridges. Burano is known for itsĀ brightly pastel-coloured housesĀ and also for itsĀ lace production. In the 16th century the lace of Burano became the most sought after and famous handcrafted product throughout Europe. The island also houses a school dedicated to lace making that was established in 1872, the school is named āScuola dei Merlettiā. You just might spot some ladies sitting in front of their colourful houses weaving some beautiful lace work. You will have 2 hours of free time in Burano to enjoy lunch (not included in the tour package).
Next, you will leave for the third and final island,Ā Torcello. This island was the first one to be populated after the fall of the Roman Empire. The inhabitants fled from Venice to Torcello to seek refuge from the constant attacks and invasions of the Barbarians. You will spend 1 hour in Torcello forĀ independent sightseeing. At the end of the tour you will board again the motorboat to make your way back to San Marco area, where you will arrive by 5.30 pm.
